For most residents of Aspinwall, it takes mere
minutes to walk to the central district. The 150-plus businesses
include a grocery store (that delivers!), an independent book shop and
coffee shop, the town park and deli. Dining options include the upscale
Mio and Luma as well as casual spots.
Aspinwall remains the
refuge its founders originally intended. The town was founded in 1892
when the Aspinwall family, then of New York state, started selling off
lots with the intent of creating a refuge from the (then)
industrialization of Pittsburgh.
And while the borough offers
apartment living, the city is marching firmly toward establishing
itself as a harbor for young families who are renovating the
turn-of-the-century architecture homes.
Still, despite the
robust commerce within and around the borough (It is bordered by the
Waterworks Mall and UPMC-St. Margaret Hospital) the borough offers
quiet well-kept, tree-lined streets lined with houses steeped in
turn-of-the-century architecture.
Residents take pride in their
